There are lots of great festivals and events here are some main ones
​

Cheese Rolling - End May - World famous and a must see ancient festival.  Crazy locals throw themselves down a very steep hill to catch a very big and heavy cheese.  You wont believe how fast they roll down the hill with no care for any injury.

​

Cheltenham Gold Cup - March - The season of jump racing culminates at this the biggest date in the betting calendar. Set over 4 days.  Cheltenham Race course has many other dates over the autumn, winter and spring and look out for smaller local point to point meetings in spring. 

​

Gloucester Tall Ships Festival - Biannual - May - Gloucester Docks really comes alive when its is filled with sailing ships as it would have been in the past.  You can visit the boats, listen to music and watch the special events. The city also hosts a Shanty Music festival at the same time. 

​

Cheltenham Literature Festival - October - One of the biggest literature festival in the country. World famous authors talk about their books

​

Cheltenham Jazz Festival - May - The biggest Jazz festival in the UK. Cheltenham comes alive with big gigs at the main festival as well as small impromptu performance if you are lucky enough to catch them by famous artists 

​

Cheltenham Science Festival - June - One for the family.  Explore the sciences.

​

3 Choirs Festival Gloucester Cathedral - Every 3 years August - Rotating between 3 local counties this classical music choir festival is at Gloucester Cathedral every third year.  World reknowned artists and an amazing setting make this one not to be missed.

​

Frightmare - October - Getting bigger every year. One for the children. Get ready to be scared with their special zones of fun and also a tractor ride to another different scare every year. Really good fun

​

Severn Bore - All year - Tidal - One of only a few places in the world where you can witness this event.  Watch how high tides interact to create a wave that flows for miles from the sea inland up the Severn River.  At very high tides people surf the wave. Must see

​

Victorian Christmas Market - November - This is one of the best Christmas markets in the country.  The setting is great with stall holders and actors dressed for the part.  Music, mulled wine and Cider and shopping.  Whats not to love. Plus Ice Skating for November to start of January.

​

Dragon Boat Racing - May - Fun thing to go and watch

Gloucester Rugby - Winter/Spring - One of the oldest and best supported Rugby teams in the country.  The atmosphere is always good even if the local team are not having their best day.  Beers will flow either way.  Tickets normally available on the day

​

Gloucester Day - September - An ancient festival resurrected. Floats and a carnival atmosphere. The Mock Major or Gloucester leads the way.

​

Gloucester Goes Retro - August - Cars, cars and some tanks etc. Lots of modes of transport from the last 100 years with people in costume in the gate streets of Gloucester. Its free and fun

​

Bristol Balloon Festival - August - Not far away from Gloucester and only a short train journey. Spectacular to watch if a little weather dependant. 

​

Gloucester History Festival - September - Smaller than the Cheltenham festivals but just as interesting. Bringing famous TV history personalities and authors to discuss Gloucester plus history from elsewhere.

​

Strike a Light - All year - Run various events in Gloucester throughout the year bringing alternate theatre, dance and spoken word to life

​

2000Trees - July - One for the teenagers and twenties.  Alternate up and coming music festival

​

Newent Onion Fayre - September -  Celebrate the onion in this ancient festival.  It some way out of Gloucester so you will need a car or catch a bus

​

Gloucester Sunday Market and Car Boot - Every Sunday -  Love a bargain?  We do.  Also sorts every week available to buy. Its cheap and you never know when you might find a hidden gem or antique.

​

Fake Festival - May - Great little festival at Gloucester Park.  Don't be fooled by the name. Its great value for money and the artists are as good as the real thing.  Plus its in a tent so you wont get wet.  We go every year and its just down the road from The Judges Lodgings

​

Gloucester Rhythm & Blues - July/August - Nice small friendly festival in local pubs in the city centre of Gloucester. Recommend venue Cafe Rene

​

Gloucester Folk Trail - February - As above but with folk music

​

Witcombe Cider Festival - End of August - This keeps getting bigger every year.  Music and Cider.  

​

Soul Circus - August - Yoga festival of well being.

​

Barn on the Farm - July - Small festival just on the out skirts of Gloucester. We are ideal if you don't fancy camping.  Lewis Capaldi performed in 2019

​

The Big Feastival - August - Big name food and music festival in the Cotswolds

​

Wychwood Festival -  End of May - A nice small festival at Cheltenham Racecourse. A variety of older musicians from the 70/80/90s and activities. Very kids friendly and one you can go to for the day without camping
